Merchant, Tolled or Both: The Motion on the Table: Fireside Chat with Delegate Vote

Date & Time December 2, 2026
10:00 AM - 10:45 AM
Location Conference Room
Type Fireside Chat

Contracted structures now dominate new financings, yet merchant assets continue to operate, and in some markets outperform, across Europe. Delegates vote on the motion, that standalone merchant BESS is no longer financeable at scale in Europe, via a poll before the session opens. The moderator will then lead two senior practitioners on opposing sides of the question through a fireside conversation on comparative revenue performance, executed contract terms and the conditions under which each model remains financeable, before the closing vote reveals whether the room has moved.

•             Benchmark how merchant assets performed against tolled and floored peers across the UK, Germany and Benelux in 2026

•             Get specific on executed deal terms: tenors, availability clauses, cycle limits, degradation provisions and who carries which risk

•             Are floor plus upside structures leaving owners enough upside, or is value quietly leaking to offtakers?

•             With GW scale projects too large to run merchant, whose balance sheet steps in, and at what price?

•             Hear how lenders weigh contracted share, tenor and counterparty quality when setting debt terms
